One of the most important things to consider when you buy hearing aids is the brand. The US hearing aid market is comprised of 6 major hearing aid manufacturers: Widex, Phonak, Signia, ReSound, Oticon, & Starkey.

When purchasing hearing aids, we recommend buying from one of these 6 brands or one of their affiliated brands which I’ll mention below. As market leaders, these brands are able to devote the most resources to research and development, and thus, have the most cutting-edge technology.

In no particular order, below is a brief overview of the “big 6” hearing aid brands.

phonak-hearing-aids

What they’re known for: Phonak is one of the 2 brands which we consider to be best at background noise reduction.

Latest hearing aids: Here is detailed overview of the newest Phonak hearing aids.

How to buy at the best price: Buy it from an online retailer. They’ll ship it to a local hearing provider affiliated with the retailer who will fit the hearing aids to your ears at no extra cost. Thousands of dollars can be saved this way, rather than purchasing directly from a local hearing provider. You can see our prices for Phonak hearing aids here.

Affiliated brands: Unitron, Hansaton. These brands are owned by the same parent company as Phonak, and have similar technology as Phonak (though sometimes older), at slightly reduced prices.

signia-hearing-aids

What they’re known for: Signia is one of the 2 brands which we consider to be best at background noise reduction. If the name “Signia” doesn’t sound familiar, it’s because this brand was previously known as “Siemens” hearing aids, but recently the ownership changed, as did the name of the brand.
