About the Phonak Audeo V70 Hearing Aid

The Audéo V70 is one of Phonak's most advanced receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aids, surpassed in technology by only the Audéo V90. This hearing aid is available in 4 different models: 10, 13, 312, and 312T. Those numbers refer to the battery size of the hearing aid. The size 10 model is the most discreet and will have the shortest battery life. The size 13 is the largest and will have the longest battery life. The size 312 model is the most popular and is a great compromise between a small size and great battery life. The 312T model is the one that comes with a telecoil. Aside from the telecoil in the 312T model, there is no difference in the technology or features offered between any of these models.

The brain of the Audeo V70 is Phonak's AutoSense operating system. AutoSense enables your hearing aids to automatically sense your environment in real-time and adapt automatically. The benefit of AutoSense is your hearing aids are constantly scanning the environment and self-adjusting, largely preventing the need for manual adjustments of the volume and programs.

With the V90 model, AutoSense scans the environment, classifies sounds, and optimizes the hearing aids in up to 7 different listening environments. With this V70 model, AutoSense automatically optimizes the hearing aids to just 4 listening environments:

-Calm Situations
-Speech in Noise
-Comfort in Noise
-Music

With this V70 model, you are missing out on automatic optimization in the following environments: Speech in Loud Noise, Speech in Car, and Comfort in Echo. However, although those 3 programs cannot be automatically accessed with the V70, you are able to manually access them via the on-board push-button. The V70 gives you access to up to 4 additional programs that your hearing provider can fine-tune and that you can access manually should the need arise.

Of these three automatic programs that the V70 lacks, the most significant is the Speech in Loud Noise program, and here's why. The Speech in Loud Noise program utilizes a feature called "StereoZoom," which the industry calls "binaural beamforming." Binaural beamforming technology is state of the art when it comes to reducing background noise and enhancing the clarity of speech. In short, this technology creates a narrow microphone “beam” which allows the wearer to focus on whoever they are facing, resulting in better speech comprehension. Binaural beamforming, or StereoZoom, is only accessible in the Speech in Loud Noise program (which the V70 has), but it is a manual program on the V70, as opposed to automatic in the V90. This means that with the V70, when you walk into a noisy situation, it is likely you are going to need to manually switch your hearing aids into the Speech in Loud Noise program, via the push-button. This isn't much of a hassle, but for folks that want the most automated, adaptable hearing aids possible, this is one reason to purchase the V90 instead of the V70.

In short, the V70 gives you a good amount of automatic and manual programs- enough for most people at least. These programs will ensure that your hearing aids will perform as well as possible in every environment. In addition, the V70 gives you access to the acclaimed Speech in Loud Noise program, though it is only manual access. The V70 is not the most automated or most intelligent hearing aid Phonak makes, but for most people, it is good enough and is an excellent all around hearing aid. There are of course many other differences between the V70 and other technology from Phonak, but we feel these are the most significant. To get an in-depth overview of all Phonak technology, you may be interested in reviewing this feature chart.

This hearing aid sits comfortably and virtually invisible behind the ear, can keep up with social lifestyles, and is suitable for mild to severe hearing losses. If you're looking for a high-performing hearing aid with state of the art technology, but don't mind if it's lacking a few bells and whistles, the V70 is likely a great hearing aid for you.

I'm a second-time Phonak user (4 yrs) having just moved from the Solano series to the Audeo V70. While I've only been using them for a week, I'm not exactly enthralled with them at this point. In the auto setting, my volume with the V70's are very inconsistent unlike the Solano units that performed much better. It seems that when there are two or more competing sounds at hand (i.e. voices, background music and possible a clothes washer/dryer running), the volume suddenly INCREASES drastically for about 10-20 seconds before going very mute. It eventually evens out again, but not like I experience with the Solanos. This has happened repeatedly when in shopping malls and while at home. I have a follow-up appointment in a few days and will see if the audiologist can replicate the problem in the lab. Otherwise, I will return to using my Solanos until I know the new units are no longer fluctuating so erratically.

I tried this hearing aid for 2 weeks before making the jump to the V90 version. From what I've read, one of the primary reasons to invest in the new Phonak aids (Venture family), is to take advantage of the binaural beamforming...hearing aid microphones communicate with each other in noisy places and make sound more clear. HOWEVER, this version V70 only allows you to access that feature through a manual program...meaning...anytime you are in noise and need to hear better, you have to push the tiny button on the aid. Not a big deal, but with the V90, this happens automatically. As I play in a band and spend A LOT of time in very loud places, the upgrade to the 90 was well worth it for me. The 70 is still a good hearing aid don't get me wrong but if you want something that is a little more seamless, make the jump to the 90 and you won't regret it.

I am absolutely elated with my new Phonaks. Never did I imagine that my hearing would sound so natural. As soon as I put this hearing aid on I was astonished at the sound quality compared to my older hearing aids. I feel a renewed energy for life as I go on with what I would consider to be near perfect hearing. Even as I type this now I am emotional about the difference this hearing aid has already made in my life. Thank you to Phonak for providing such a high quality device to so many of us who suffer in silence!

Buy the V90 model and get the Speech in Loud Noise program with StereoZoom. I'm a young professional and am constantly in very noisy environments like lecture halls, trade shows, restaurants, etc, and having the Speech in Loud Noise program kick in automatically with the V90s (for me), meant my hearing aids were fully automated and I no longer had to ever adjust any volume or program settings. The v70s sound good and are great hearing aids and sound excellent until you get into noise, at which point you have to manually switch programs into Speech in Loud Noise. The V90 which I ended up purchasing does this automatically and it's made all the difference in the world for me.

I am extremely pleased with these hearing aids and with the provider Zip got for me. 2 days after my initial call to Zip I was wearing these aids and paid an even lower price that what is posted. Thrilled with their performance and the customer service of Zip, my hearing specialist, and Phonak.

Just received my new hearing aids (Phonak V70) today, and so far, like them ALOT! My "old" Phonaks were 9 + years old, and technology has obviously improved.

I received my single Audeo V70 hearing aid over a month ago. I have owned a variety of behind the ear aids over the last 15 years. This particular aid is a step up in realism of sound - voices and music. ZipHearing beat prices from other vendors (even with Insurance) for the same aid. My local provider was very professional in fitting , equalizing, and distributing my hearing aid.

I got the Phonak Audeo V70 & CROS II system recently, and it would be an understatement to say that it has opened up a whole new world for me. I have no hearing in my right ear, and some days after I got the system, I was hugging someone goodbye, and she whispered in my ear. First, I have to say, it was quite a shock to hear someone whispering on that side ... it made the hair stand up on my neck. Second, and more importantly, it made me wonder how many things had been said or murmured that I haven't heard over the years. I would urge anyone thinking about getting a system to get one ... there is no downside to hearing everything you can (although I have a friend who quipped once that I have it good because I don't have to listen to half of the crazy stuff people say!).

I should mention that Jeff at ZipHearing was helpful, professional, patient, and genuinely concerned for my happiness with the product. I cannot recommend ZipHearing any more highly. Don't procrastinate ... I glad I didn't. Happy listening!
