Darlene’s Review

I am a 50 year old woman and I have mild hearing loss in one ear and moderate loss in the ear I am wearing this hearing aid in. The hearing loss was first detected when I was in grade school and has remained the same for many years. I didn’t have a problem hearing in most situations. In my forties, my ENT and Audiologist thought that I might benefit from a hearing aid, but left it up to me to decide when the time was right. Over the past year, I, or should I say my family noticed my hearing was worsening, which prompted me to invest in this hearing aid. Before the aid, I had difficulty with word crispness and distinguishing some consonant sounds when someone was speaking to me from another room or behind me. I also had difficulty hearing when there was a lot of background noise and needed to be looking at the person who was speaking.

So a hearing aid was first suggested for me about 7 years ago, but I didn’t feel that my hearing loss at that time affected my every day live enough to justify the cost. A few days ago, I finally decide to purchase the hearing aid when my family became frustrated with my inability to hear them and my requests to repeat what they said. I paid $2500 for one Phonak Audéo V70. The initial exam, 2 yr. warranty, 1 yr office visits and 1 yr batteries were included.

On a scale of 1-10 I would give the V70 a 9. It’s small and barely noticeable even with my hair up in a pony tail. It’s comfortable to wear and has improved my hearing and quality (crispness of words). In fact it is so comfortable that sometimes I forget that I have it in when I go to bed. I got used to it right away. The only minor problem I have noticed is sometimes my ear canal gets a little itchy. I am definitely hearing more than I did prior to wearing the hearing aid and “what” is used a lot less. I knew that the hearing aid would not recapture all of the sounds I was not hearing, but it has significantly improved the range of sounds I hear and I am very happy with it.
