Widex Moment reviews

Summary

Customers say

The Moment hearing aids are praised for their natural and exceptional sound quality, restoring clarity to high-pitched sounds, TV, and music. Bluetooth connectivity enhances functionality by allowing users to stream audio, answer calls, and control settings via the Moment app, which also provides customization for tone and frequency adjustments. Users appreciate the comfort of the secure rubber domes, extended battery life, and discreet design. However, some experience issues with Bluetooth dropouts during phone calls, less-than-ideal TV sound, occasional feedback, and challenges with background noise in crowded environments. Additionally, a few users found the size uncomfortable, especially when wearing glasses, and noted that the user manual lacked comprehensive instructions.

A Revelation

After I lost 90% of my hearing (due to a Covid-caused inner ear infection), I made the decision to get hearing aids. While my ear infection was successfully treated I still had my previous hearing loss which, while not profound, was enough to interfere with activities in my daily life. Following conversations, especially in noisy environments, were difficult. Music had lost its ‘sparkle’ and understanding dialogue in television and films, particularly with the mumbling of modern actors, was becoming impossible. So, after consulting with some of my friends, I explored my options. I found the internet site ZipHearing, which was highly rated and offered a substantial discount. The site works as a brokerage, working with selected audiologists, to send customers their way and handle all the billing issues. I got in touch with Jeff (who is also the president of ZipHearing!) and he explained everything and got the ball rolling. After a consultation with a certified audiologist who had an office near me, I sprung for a pair of Widex 440 Moment hearing aids. I was now hearing things as I used to years ago. I had avoided hearing aids for years due to the older models having problems with latency and ‘artificial-ness’. The Widex is very natural sounding. The sound processing they do is very sophisticated, yet I remain unaware of what it is doing, it also has a iPhone app to tweak the sound if needed. The earpieces, while fairly comfortable, can be tiring (especially after a full day's use) and a lot of the restored high frequency sounds are really just noise (crackling paper, creaks and squeaks) that I could live without!

I’m real happy with the Widex Moment

I've worn hearing aids for over a dozen years and have difficulty understanding people and separating words and particularly higher frequencies. I'm happy with these Widex Moment- they're hardly visible at all, most people don't even know I'm wearing them, and I like that they don't require batteries like my old Widex. Another thing that I really like about these that I didn’t have before is the Bluetooth capability, where these automatically hook to my phone so if I have a phone call come in, or I’m listening to anything on the phone it automatically goes to my hearing aids and I really like that.

Game changer

The Widex Moment with Bluetooth connectivity and the Moment App for personal control is a game changer for me. I work with clients by telephone. My hearing was getting so bad I couldn't hear on the phone and that I thought I was going to be forced into retirement. Bluetooth connecting my cell phone to my hearing aids saved my career. I can actually hear better on the telephone now than I can in person.

Outstanding Upgrade

I have worn hearing aids for six years. Recently I looked into upgrading into more improved hearing aids, and after trying another brand, went back to Widex. The primary reason was the fit. They are a bit smaller than my originals, and they simply fit my small ears and the curve of my outer ear better than the Oticons I tried. They are much easier to charge than having to change a battery, but that was not a terrible drawback for my original hearing aids. And traveling is actually easier with batteries, since I don't have to remember the charger. So that's kind of a wash. But for daily use, nothing beats the simple ability to pop them right in each morning. The Bluetooth is great, although I am still getting used to hearing texts and the phone ringing right in my ears. There is a learning curve with this newer technology, and I am still learning how to get the most from it. Overall, I am very happy with these hearing aids, and especially the Widex brand.

Natural

I have the new Widex Moment RIC (rechargeable). The sound quality is excellent and natural. These hearing aids fit in my ear very comfortably. As with all of the brands I tried, the hearing aids do have to compete for room behind my ear with my glasses. But there is no discomfort.

I really like the controls I have for the hearing aids with the app on my phone. I have about 7-8 programs saved and can easily switch between them through the app. If I think a program is not right for the environment I am in, I make adjustments to volume, tone, etc. I can save this as a new program if I want, but I don't always do that because I don't want to have so many programs that I spend too much time trying to get to the perfect sound fit. Simply make an adjustment.

Lastly, the hearing aids stay charged all day. I wear them between 12-14 hours a day. There is no loss of sound or quality. I don't stream music or other sounds through them often, but I do use them consistently as a phone earbud. The hearing quality on my end works great. I do notice sometimes that the person on the other end may not hear me completely. So far when that has happened, I have been 3-5 feet away from my phone, which may be the cause. When I hold the phone or keep it near me, their reception improves.

My hearing loss was minor. The Widex Moment hearing aids recommended by my provider are amazing. I’m calling my new hearing ability a super power. It is a luxury that I am enjoying.

Widex Moment Sheer vs. Signia Stilleto Trial

I conducted a two week trial to determine if the Widex Moment Sheer 330 or the Signia Stilleto 5 AX was best for my needs. I have moderate tinnitus along with a mild hearing loss. Widex won out. The sound quality is excellent. Using the Zen tones option, the ringing in my ears started to become less noticeable after a week of use. Widex has a good smartphone app to choose hearing programs, volumes, music/voice streaming, etc. The actual hearing aids are small, light, and easy to install. The Signia Stilleto provides little control over sound quality with the phone app. They are much larger and heavier units than Widex and flopped around during biking, hiking, and other physical activities. The additional weight makes initial daily placement in the ear a bit more difficult. When they moved around behind the ear, there was a lot of clicking or crackling noise generated. Perhaps this was caused by contact with hair or ends of my glasses (problem occurred also w/o glasses on). In addition, I experienced a reverberation or echo effect from my voice in these units. After wearing each type of hearing aid for one week, I decided to purchase the Widex Moment. One month later I am still pleased with these hearing aids.

I Was Hoping for More....

After trying a few brands, I settled on the Widex Moment; and although this set of hearing aids, leaves a lot to be desired some of the features are better on these hearing aids than the others. They are very comfortable, don't easily fall off or turn off, and have numerous adjustment features, which however, do not seem to address a common issue with each of these hearing aids: when watching TV, even though numerous settings have been tried, the voices of most women have a hollow, echo, disturbing pitch to them, while that of men, at that same level of adjustment, is much more comfortable. Even adjusting for treble and bass, does not seem to do it. As a result, I will usually remove the hearing aids, and just turn up the volume on the TV. These same settings are pretty much OK, for the day-to-day uses, when out and about, although the volume can be a problem, since the adjustments made in various personalized programs I have created, seems to be inadequate in normal conversations, and especially if it's a woman who speaks softly.

Top quality

I got Widex Moment Sheer 440 hearing aids. They are the most transparent hearing aids I have tried (meaning I don't notice them as much and I hear well). As a musician I am quite happy with the sound and love the way you can design your own programs in the app. One downside: Their one button can be used EITHER for volume adjustment or program selection, but not both. (You choose which via your provider.) That's an annoying omission.

Common questions about Widex Moment hearing aids

Bluetooth / Connectivity Rechargeability Disposable Batteries Controls/Apps Miscellaneous

Choose questions category:

Is this hearing aid Bluetooth compatible?

The SmartRIC, sRIC R D, RIC 312 D, BTE R D, and BTE 13 D models are all Made for iPhone, which means they can connect directly with iPhones to stream music, phone calls, and more. These models are also compatible with the new Android protocol, Audio Streaming for Hearing Aids (ASHA), allowing direct streaming from select Android devices with Android 10 and Bluetooth 5.0. If your phone isn't directly compatible with MOMENT, or if you're getting the RIC 10 model or one of the custom in-the-ear Moment models, you can still get Bluetooth functionality via the COM-DEX streaming accessory.

Does this hearing aid allow for hands-free phone calls?

Yes, but only via the COM-DEX or Sound Assist accessory. You'll be able to hear the callers voice streaming through the hearing aids, and the caller will hear your voice via the microphone on the COM-DEX or Sound Assist device, which should be worn around your neck so the microphone is in close proximity to your mouth.

Can this hearing aid be paired directly to my Bluetooth TV?
No. To stream audio from the TV you'll need the TV-DEX device.
How many hours a day do the batteries last?

The Moment sRIC and BTE R D models last around 16 hours a day with a few hours of streaming. With no streaming, they should last around 20 hours. The SmartRIC model lasts 37 hours without Bluetooth streaming and up to 27 hours with 8 hours of Bluetooth streaming.

What if I'm on-the-go and my battery dies?

The newest model from Widex (SmartRIC), is compatible with a portable charger, which will allow you to charge the hearing aids on the go.  Unfortunately Widex doesn't make a mobile power pack or travel charger for any of their other models, but they do have a recommendation. If you buy a mobile power bank, like the kind used for cell phones, you can plug your Widex into that and draw power from it. Widex recommends the following powerbanks, which can be found on Amazon: ZMI PowerPack 10000mAh, Anker PowerCore 10000mAh, Anker PowerCore 20100mAh.

How long does it take to get a full charge?
A full charge takes 4 hrs, and that'll get you 16-24 hours of battery life. A 30 minute quick charger will get you 4 hours of battery life.
What is the lifespan of the rechargeable batteries?
The battery should last about 1500 charges. That means if you charge it every day, just over 4 hrs. When the battery dies, your hearing provider will have to ship the hearing aid to Widex for a battery replacement. We expect local providers to charge between $150-$250 for this.
How will I know when my battery needs to be charged?
Depending on how your hearing provider has setup the hearing aid, a few hours before the battery dies you'll hear a spoken notification that says "battery low," or a tone. Then, a few minutes ebfore the battery dies, you'll hear the same notification again, reminding you that you need to charge your hearing aids.
Does the charger include a dehumidifier?
The standard charger included with all orders does not. If you live in a humid environment or are concered about moisture, we recommend upgrading to the Charge n Clean charger which does have a drying feature.
How long do the batteries last?
The battery on the RIC 10 & CIC model will only last 2-4 days. The 312 battery models will last 4-6 days.
How will I know when it's time to change the battery?
Depending on how your hearing provider has setup the hearing aid, a few hours before the battery dies you'll hear a spoken notification that says "battery low," or a tone. Then, a few minutes ebfore the battery dies, you'll hear the same notification again.
Are the batteries hard to change?
The RIC 10 model, and CIC model can both be challenging if you have poor dexterity, because they use the smallest battery size available. The size 312 batteries on the other models are easy enough for most people to change.
How can I control this hearing aid, and which settings can I control?
If the model has an onboard push button, that can be used to control the volume and program, as can the RC-DEX remote. Or, you can use the MOMENT app to control the volume, program, base and treble, and microphone directionality.
Does the app have a “Find My Hearing Aid” feature?
Yes, though in order for this feature to work, your hearing aids must have been paired to your phone prior to misplacing them. If they were, the app will identify the last location where the aids were in communication range of the phone, allowing you to narrow your search.
How do I turn this hearing aid on and off?
If you use the rechargeable model, press and hold the onboard rockerswitch's bottom button down for 3 seconds to turn it on or off. Or, simply place the hearing aid in the charger. If you use a model with disposable batteries, opening the battery door will turn it off, and closing it will turn it on.
Which models offer Widex Zen Therapy for tinnitus relief?
All models and technology levels have relaxing Zen tones built in, with the exception of the CIC Micro style.
How is the SmartRIC (released Feb 7, 2024), different than the other Moment models?

The SmartRIC model sets itself apart from other Widex Moment models through several distinctive features, despite being built on the same platform and using the same chip. The design has been refined, with Widex adjusting the angle of the microphones to significantly reduce wind and handling noise and improve speech clarity in noisy environments. Additionally, SmartRIC introduces a new portable charger, which is a notable advancement. This charger is equipped with its own lithium-ion battery, capable of storing an industry-best 5 full charges, offering convenience for users on the go. Furthermore, the SmartRIC model boasts an improved battery life over other rechargeable Moment models, delivering 37 hours of operation without Bluetooth streaming and up to 27 hours with 8 hours of Bluetooth streaming. Initially, the SmartRIC is available in the 440, 330, and 220 technology levels, catering to a range of user requirements. The SmartRIC is available in 5 colors, which can be seen here: https://www.widex.com/en/hearing-aids/smartric/

Is this hearing aid CROS compatible?
No. If you need a CROS transmitter, you'll have to get the older EVOKE model, from 2018.
Can I get this hearing aid with a telecoil?
The RIC 312 D and XP models include a telecoil.
What happened to the Moment mRIC R D model?
In September of 2022 Widex discontinued this model and replaced it with the sRIC R D model. The 's' stands for 'Sheer', and you may see Widex Sheer referred to in advertisements, but it's just referring to this new model from Widex- the sRIC R D. As compared to the previous mRIC R D, the sRIC R D has an updated housing and several new software updates. These software updates are all available to existing Widex Moment users (of all styles), and that update can be done through the Moment App.

Sound Assist, $369

Sound Assist, $369

Compatible with the following Moment models: sRIC R D, RIC 312 D, SmartRIC, BTE 13 D, BTE R D. Sound Assist is a multipurpose device that Widex calls a 'Swiss Army Knife' for your hearing aids that fits in the palm of your hand. There are multiple ways to use this accessory. First, and probably the most popular way to use it, is as what's called a 'remote mic' or 'partner mic.' This allows you either clip the device on a partner, or lay it on a table, which allows it to then stream sound directly to your Moment hearing aids, making sound much more clear. You can also use Sound Assist as a Bluetooth bridge between your hearing aids, and devices like your phone, or TV audio, allowing you to stream audio from those devices, and even allowing you to have hands-free phone calls. Finally, you can use Sound Assist to control some of the settings on your hearing aids, and even act as a Telecoil for your hearing aids, if your hearing aids don't have a telecoil. Sound Assist is compatible with all Bluetooth-compatible Widex Moment hearing aids, which is all models except the RIC 10, and the custom in-the-ear models. Sound Assist is powered by a lithium-ion rechargeable battery, which is fully charged in 3 hours and can then provide up to 10 hours of use time.

Others can keep the TV at their preferred volume level, while you set your own volume via the app or on the hearing aids themselves. RATING 7

TV-DEX, $299

TV-DEX, $299

In most cases, we recommend going with the newer TV Play instead. However, TV Dex could be the right choice if you're ordering a custom in-ear Moment model, as the TV Play is not compatible with the in-ear models. Plug it into the back of your TV or soundbar and the audio will be streamed directly to your hearing aids. Others can keep the TV at their preferred volume level, while you set your own volume via the app or on the hearing aids themselves.
RATING 8
The image of COM-DEX hearing aids
COM-DEX, $249

COM-DEX, $249

Compatible with all Moment models except the CIC Micro. This is a Bluetooth streamer that allows you to stream audio from your phone to your hearing aids. If you have an iPhone, you don't need this, because iPhones directly stream to Widex Moment hearing aids. If you have an Android or any other phone and you want to stream from your phone, you need this. Even if you have an iPhone, it still may make sense to get this, because it does allow for hands free phone calls. Wear it around your neck and the microphone picks up your voice for the person on the other end of the call to hear, so you don't have to hold you the phone to your mouth when speaking.
RATING 9
The image of RC-DEX hearing aids
RC-DEX, $149

RC-DEX, $149

Compatible with all Moment models except the CIC Micro. You probably don't need this. Most people use the app to control their hearing aids, and if not the app, then the push button on the hearing aid itself. But if neither of those suit you, this remote is a simple way to control the volume and program.
RATING 10
The image of COM-DEX Remote Mic hearing aids
COM-DEX Remote Mic, $269

COM-DEX Remote Mic, $269

Compatible with all Moment models except the CIC Micro. Used as an optional "add on" with the standard COM-DEX. Clip the COM-DEX Remote Mic to a companion's shirt and their voice will stream directly to the COM-DEX worn around your neck, and then to your hearing aids. Their voice will come through much stronger than all the competing noise in the environment. If you have a hard time hearing in noise this accessory is a lifesaver.

KEY FEATURES

1. Dome

The image of Dome hearing aids feature

The dome slips over and encloses/protects the receiver/speaker. Domes are made with medical-grade silicone. They come in different shapes and sizes—your hearing care professional will help you pick the right size and style. Selecting the appropriate dome will change the sound performance of your hearing aids, so if you’re not achieving satisfying results with your hearing aids, your hearing provider will often consider trying a different dome style. In some cases, such as for wearers with severe or profound hearing loss, an earmold will be used instead of a dome.

2. Microphone

The image of Microphone hearing aids feature

The microphone picks up the sound from the environment and sends it into the hearing aid for processing. You’ll mostly want to leave the microphone alone, but periodically check it to ensure it’s not being plugged up by hair care products or oils.

3. Receiver

The image of Receiver hearing aids feature

The receiver AKA speaker delivers the sound into the ear. Widex receivers are available in 3 different strengths, standard (S), moderate (M), power (P). Your ZipHearing provider will help you determine the appropriate gain (strength/power) receiver based on the results of your hearing test. Expect to have to replace your receivers every year or so, and this is something that usually takes just a few minutes with your local ZipHearing provider.

4. Receiver wire

The image of Receiver wire hearing aids feature

This thin, plastic-coated wire transmits power and signals to the receiver/speaker, which is worn inside the ear. Widex receivers are available in 5 different lengths: 0,1,2,3 & 4. Your ZipHearing provider will help you determine the appropriate length of receiver wire, by measuring your ear. In cases when your ZipHearing provider is unsure of the exact receiver length that will work best for you, we’re happy to send out a few different receiver lengths for you to try.

5. Rechargeable or disposable batteries

The image of Rechargeable or disposable batteries hearing aids feature

The model shown is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, expected to last 16-24 hours/day. The battery takes about 3 hours to fully charge, and a 30 minute quick charge will get you about 6 hours of power. Most people do buy the rechargeable model, and simply put the aids in a charger next to their bed at night, allowing them to wake up with fully charged hearing aids. Other models shown on this page (below) can be powered by a disposable size 312, 13, or 10 battery. These disposable batteries will last anywhere from 5-10 days, depending on how much Bluetooth streaming you do. Your purchase from ZipHearing includes a 1 year supply of disposable batteries.

6. Push button

The image of Push button hearing aids feature

The push button can be programmed by your hearing provider to control either the volume, or program (not both). In addition, a long press and hold turns the hearing aid off. Some people use this exclusively to control the hearing aids, and others use the app to control the hearing aids. Others (most people), use a combination of both the app and push button to make adjustments to their hearing aids. You likely won’t have to use this button often, but some people find them handy to make quick adjustments to their hearing aids when they change listening environments (ie, entering a noisy restaurant, or a quiet room). Your hearing provider will go over the options available and make sure your hearing aids are set up to your ideal preferences.

7. Water resistant

The image of Water resistant hearing aids feature

Widex Moment has an IP68 rating, meaning it’s protected from dust getting inside and can withstand exposure to water. The IP68 rating means the hearing aid can technically be underwater up to 3 feet, for up to 30 minutes, without sustaining damage, but we’d still advise exercising caution around water.

8. Wax filter

The image of Wax filter hearing aids feature

When it comes to maintaining your hearing aids, this is where you’ll spend most of your time. The wax filter (mostly) prevents wax and oils from getting into the receiver/speaker. Your hearing provider may supply you with Widex Nanocare wax filters enabling you to periodically change these on your own. Some people never have to change these wax filters, others have to change them weekly. Your purchase includes 1 pack of wax filters, and you can purchase additional wax filters directly from your ZipHearing provider, or through a number of sites online such as Amazon.
