I am immediately impressed!

I have only been using the Oticon Intent for a few days, but…wow! I am immediately impressed! Connecting these hearing aids to my phone was incredibly easy and very fast. There were no long “searching for device” issues, they quickly showed up in my accessibility settings and were paired within seconds. The new AI features in the hearing aids are certainly helping when it comes to picking up speech in noise. Furthermore, it is assisting in identifying directionality of the sounds that are around me. I was walking down the street and was able to hear the people passing by me and was also able to sense the physical location that their sounds were coming from. The shorter length of the devices adds to the overall comfort while wearing the hearing aids. However, the added width does take some getting used to, especially if you wear glasses. This is not a huge issue, but is immediately noticeable upon putting them on your ears. The companion app is very useful and responsive, and also comes with an Apple Watch app as well! I love being able to switch programs and adjust volume from my wrist. Very good job Oticon!

Oticon Intent 1 not what I expected

Unfortunately these hearing aids did not solve the problem of hearing when there is ambient noise. In addition, I still have trouble with high pitched consonants :-(

So far so good

I've had these Oticon Intent hearing aids for a couple of weeks now, replacing Phonak Audio Lumity hearing aids. My impression is that I am hearing sibilant sounds slightly better and hearing conversations in restaurants slightly better. Even slight gains mean a lot to me. I have moderate hearing loss in the upper registers (normal in the lower). Anything that improves comprehension is welcome. In addition, the design of these hearing aids makes them more comfortable for me than the Phonaks and I wear them all the time without noticing that they are in except very occasionally feeling a little itching in the left ear, which goes away if I take out the hearing aid for a moment and rub the area. I would recommend these hearing aids to others.

Best hearing aids I’ve had

This new Intent model is a winner pretty much all around as far as I’m concerned. And hats off to Ziphearing.com for great and very responsive service, not to mention saving me a few thousand dollars. I’m a customer for life!
Now, the review: Oticon Intent 1s gave me a newbie’s “aha” moment with the huge improvement in speech-in-noise where I’ve always struggled. I’m no longer as nervous about going into restaurants, to receptions and the like. The feature allowing the aids to focus on a individual in a group when you turn your head as they join the conversation feels as if I’m hearing them far better than with my older versions of Oticon aids.
The general setting is an incremental improvement over the Oppn 1 and Real 1 aids I most recently had and I think my word recognition is a bit better. In addition, I personally find the “My Music” setting very good for listening and playing music with my band. The clarity and fidelity, for me, is similarly an improvement over earlier versions of this program. Since streaming is now an important part of a hearing aid’s utility, I am impressed with the performance of the Intent. It provides hands-free calling with my Iphone, and the quality of the audio when I occasionally stream a bit of music or internet radio program is quite good.
Intent also does a good job knocking down wind noise when you are outside. There are features such as touching the aids to answer or hang up a call which I have yet to use with any regularly. The only negative I would mention is I find the Oticon “app” to be a bit of a pain to use. It’s faster to make program and audio level changes with your fingers on the aids themselves. I use the “app” largely to check battery strength. Using it too much drains the phone battery. The built-in rechargeable battery lasts well beyond my normal 16-hour day (still maybe 30-40% left at days’ end). If I need more, the new charger is quite rapid — 15 minutes gets you 4 extra hours, and 30 minutes gets you 8 hours more. A travel charger with an internal battery like the Real units have would be nice, but the USB-A and C cord and charger provided make it easy to recharge off a travel battery for small devices, and you can charge in your car if necessary.

First hearing aids, why did I wait so long?

I'm 68 years old. Worked around large engines and generators for decades and didn't always wear the ear pro that I should have. My wife has been "encouraging" me for years to get my hearing tested. Finally did at an ENT, Costco, and finally at a Zip Hearing partner. All the tests concurred that I had moderate hearing loss in one ear and more severe loss in the other. Oticon Intent 2 was recommended. I wore those for a few weeks and they were great but using them with an iPhone to talk was a challenge. The Bluetooth range is very short, like 6 feet. And one ear would drop out sometimes during phone calls. Also the other end of the call said I sounded like I was in a barrel. Overall the hearing aids for natural sound hearing were very good and provided excellent background sound isolation. The phone interface was a big letdown. Can't have it all they say. I now talk with the iPhone on speaker and all is well, would really like to not have the phone on speaker for some calls.

They are working great

These hearing aids are great for me. I am able to hear with no problem at all. they are just as good or better than another brand that I tried that cost over 3 thousand dollars more. they are doing fine and I use them everywhere. I am outside most of the time and they do fine by staying in and not having to worry about them falling out or getting knocked out of my ear.

Outstanding Real World Performance

These Oticons Intents are a replacement for my seven year old Oticons that stopped working. My new Oticons are leaps ahead in hearing distinction environments from the courtroom to restaurants to movie theaters to family gatherings. Be sure to have your aids tuned to your hearing deficiencies. I was reluctant to use my aids for more demanding situations such as playing tennis (I did not use my previous Oticons for tennis or other sports situations because I wanted to protect them from "abuse" such as sweat or having them fall out) with no issues. I can hear the ball bounce and come off the strings as well as the match scores. I now want to try them on my road bike so I can hear traffic approaching from behind as well as next season for snow boarding. I used to have trouble hearing soft women's voices but the new sound technology greatly assists with my listening. Aids are comfortable and do remain in place even during tennis and I can wear them all day unlike previous pair where I got ear fatigue. Only minor issue has been a 2-3 second drop out on my right ear but I will bring that up with my provider. Has only happened a few times and not something I consider a major "don't buy" issue. Although expensive, they are worth the investment even if I have to cut out my Starbucks visits to pay for them!

Common questions about Oticon Intent hearing aids

Bluetooth / ConnectivityRechargeabilityControls/AppsMiscellaneous

Choose questions category:

Can this hearing aid be paired directly to my Bluetooth TV?
No. To stream audio from the TV you'll need the TV Adapter 3.0
Is this hearing aid Bluetooth compatible?
Oticon Intent is Made for iPhone, which means it can connect directly with iPhones to stream music, phone calls, and more. Oticon Intent can also stream to ASHA-compatible Android phones with Android 10 or later and Bluetooth 5.0. If you don’t have an iPhone or an ASHA-compatible Android, you can still stream Bluetooth audio to your Intent hearing aids via the ConnectClip accessory which is shown below on this page.
Does this hearing aid allow for hands-free phone calls?
Hands-free communication is available with select Android devices and iPhone® 11 or later running iOS 15.2 or later, and iPad® running iPadOS® 15.2 or later. Hands-free two-way communication is compatible with Mac devices using macOS 14 Sonoma with select Mac devices with M1 chip, and all Mac devices with M2 chip.
What if I'm on-the-go and my battery dies?
Because the battery life is 20 hours, this is unlikely to happen. Unfortunately Oticon doesn’t have a mobile charger, so there’s no great solution for charging on-the-go. If you forget to charge the hearing aids the night before and are concerned the battery may day in the middle of your day, be sure to bring your charger with you, and you can then do a quick charge that takes 30 minutes and will provide 8 hours of power.
How many hours a day do the batteries last?
If you don't do any streaming, the battery should last 20 hours. If you stream a few hours a day, battery life will be around 16-18 hours.
What is the lifespan of the rechargeable batteries?
The lithium-ion battery will last 2.5-3 years. When it needs to be replaced, take it to your hearing provider and they can replace the battery in their office.
How will I know when my battery needs to be charged?
A few hours before the battery dies, you'll hear three steady beeps. This will usually happen a few times. Then, right before the battery dies, you'll hear four descending tones.
How long does it take to get a full charge?
A full charge takes 2 hrs and will get you 20 hours of power. A 30 minute quick charge will get you 8 hours of power.
Does the charger include a dehumidifier?
It does not. If you live in a humid environment or are concerned about moisture exposure, Oticon recommends buying the Flow Med Dry-Cap or PerfectDry Lux dehumidifers.
How can I control this hearing aid, and which settings can I control?
There are a few different ways to control Intent hearing aids. First, is by using the push-button on the back of the hearing aid. The push-button (which is setup by your local hearing care provider), can be programmed to control the volume, program, and with iPhones and a select few Android phones, it can be used to answer and end phone calls. For further control over the hearing aids, we recommend using the Companion app, which gives you much more functionality than the push-button or Remote Control 3.0. You can read about the Oticon Companion app's functionality further down this page in the 'Compatible apps & accessories' section. If you don’t want to use the push-button on the hearing aid, and don’t want to use the Companion app, you can buy Oticon’s Remote Control 3.0 (shown below), which is a small handheld remote that allows for simple volume and program control.
How do I turn this hearing aid on and off?
To turn the hearing aid off, simply place it in the charger. Or, press and hold the push-button on the back of the hearing aid for three seconds.
Does the app have a “Find My Hearing Aid” feature?
Yes. However, in order to use this feature, you wouldn've had to have setup the app and paired your hearing aids to your phone, prior to losing them. Once the hearing aids have been paired, if you lose them, the app will help you locate them, so long as the hearing aids are powered on. If the hearing aids are powered off, or if their batteries have died, the app will show you the last location of the hearing aids when they were powered on.
Oticon Real vs. Oticon Intent
Oticon Intent differs from Oticon Real in several key ways. Firstly, Intent is built on Oticon's latest platform, Sirius, offering improved performance and features. It introduces miniFit Detect receivers, ensuring accurate sound delivery through self-calibrating speakers. Additionally, Intent boasts a sleeker design, being the smallest rechargeable miniRITE style in Oticon's lineup, while still incorporating a telecoil and a large rechargeable battery for extended use. Unlike Oticon Real, which offers disposable batteries, Intent is exclusively available with a rechargeable option. Furthermore, Intent introduces user-intent sensors, capturing individual communication needs and tailoring support accordingly, especially beneficial in complex listening environments. With enhanced MoreSound Intelligence version 3.0, Intent provides 35% more access to speech cues compared to its predecessor. Lastly, Intent offers more color options, including Sky Blue and Honey Beige, allowing for greater personalization.
Is this hearing aid CROS compatible?
Intent is CROS compatible with the CROS PX miniRITE R (rechargeable) and the CROS minRITE T (312 battery) models shown above. Note that these models are based on the previous Oticon Real design, so the casing is similar to Intent but does not match it perfectly.
Can I get this hearing aid with a telecoil?
Yes, the miniRITE R model comes standard with a telecoil.

RATING3
The image of ConnectClip hearing aids
ConnectClip, $249

ConnectClip, $249

ConnectClip has two features. First, it's most commonly used as a Bluetooth streamer that allows you to stream audio from your phone to your hearing aids. If you have an iPhone, you don't need this, because iPhones stream directly to Oticon Intent hearing aids. If you have an Android or any other phone and you want to stream from your phone, you need this. Even if you have an iPhone, it still may make sense to get this, because it does allow for hands free phone calls. Wear it around your neck and the microphone picks up your voice for the person on the other end of the call to hear, so you don't have to hold you the phone to your mouth when speaking. The second feature of ConnectClip is its ability to work as a remote microphone. If you have a hard time hearing in noise this accessory is a lifesaver. Attach the ConnectClip to a companion's shirt and their voice will stream directly to your hearing aids. Their voice will come through much stronger than all the competing noise in the environment.
RATING4
The image of Remote Control 3.0 hearing aids

Remote Control 3.0, $199

You probably don't need this. Most people use the app to control their hearing aids, and if not the app, then the push button on the hearing aid itself. But if neither of those suit you, this remote is a simple way to control the volume and program.

KEY FEATURES

1. Dome

The image of Dome hearing aids feature

The dome slips over and encloses/protects the receiver/speaker. Domes are made with medical-grade silicone. They come in different shapes and sizes—your hearing care professional will help you pick the right size and style. Selecting the appropriate dome will change the sound performance of your hearing aids, so if you’re not achieving satisfying results with your hearing aids, your hearing provider will often consider trying a different dome style. In some cases, such as for wearers with severe or profound hearing loss, an earmold will be used instead of a dome.

2. Indicator light

The image of Indicator light hearing aids feature

The LED indicator light shows the charging state of the battery. The light will turn orange when the hearing aid is charging, and green when fully charged. When removed from the charger or turned on, the light will turn green after approximately six seconds, confirming that it is ready for use.

3. Microphone

The image of Microphone hearing aids feature

The microphone picks up the sound from the environment and sends it into the hearing aid for processing. You’ll mostly want to leave the microphone alone, but periodically check it to ensure it’s not being plugged up by hair care products or oils.

4. Receiver

The image of Receiver hearing aids feature

The receiver AKA speaker delivers the sound into the ear. Oticon receivers are available in 3 different strengths, standard (60), moderate (85), power (100), and super power (105). Your ZipHearing provider will help you determine the appropriate gain (strength/power) receiver based on the results of your hearing test. Expect to have to replace your receivers every year or so, and this is something that usually takes just a few minutes with your local ZipHearing provider.

5. Receiver wire

The image of Receiver wire hearing aids feature

This thin, plastic-coated wire transmits power and signals to the receiver/speaker, which is worn inside the ear. Oticon Intent features all new miniFit Detect receivers that are available in 6 different lengths: 0,1,2,3, 4, and 5. Your ZipHearing provider will help you determine the appropriate length of receiver wire, by measuring your ear. In cases when your ZipHearing provider is unsure of the exact receiver length that will work best for you, we’re happy to send out a few different receiver lengths for you to try.

6. Rechargeable battery

The image of Rechargeable battery hearing aids feature

At the current time, Oticon Intent is only available with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, expected to last 16-20 hours/day. The battery takes about 2 hours to fully charge, and a 30 minute quick charge will get you about 8 hours of power. These batteries will last about 3 years, and the first battery replacement is covered under your 3 year hearing aid warranty.

7. Push-button

8. Water resistant

Oticon Intent has an IP68 rating, with all vital components nano-coated inside and out. As a result, Intent is protected from dust getting inside and can withstand exposure to water, though caution around water is highly recommended. Prolonged exposure to water can cause irreparable damage to Oticon Intent, in which a one-time replacement device would be issued during your 3 year warranty, subject to a $350 deductible payable to your local ZipHearing provider .

9. Wax filter

When it comes to maintaining your hearing aids, this is where you’ll spend most of your time. The wax filter (mostly) prevents wax and oils from getting into the receiver/speaker. Your hearing provider may supply you with Oticon ProWax filters enabling you to periodically change these on your own. Some people never have to change these wax filters, others have to change them weekly. Your purchase includes 1 pack of wax filters, and you can purchase additional wax filters directly from your ZipHearing provider, or through a number of sites online such as Amazon.

10. Dome

11. Indicator light

The LED indicator light shows the charging state of the battery. The light will turn orange when the hearing aid is charging, and green when fully charged. When removed from the charger or turned on, the light will turn green after approximately six seconds, confirming that it is ready for use.

12. Microphone

The microphone picks up the sound from the environment and sends it into the hearing aid for processing. You’ll mostly want to leave the microphone alone, but periodically check it to ensure it’s not being plugged up by hair care products or oils.

13. Receiver

14. Receiver wire

15. Rechargeable battery
