Phonak Audéo Lumity

Hi there, my name is Nick and today I’m gonna talk to you about my Phonak Lumity 90s. So for a brief introduction on my hearing loss history, I am very new to hearing loss, my hearing loss is mild and I’ve been experiencing it probably for the past 4 or 5 years, but have not really jumped into the world of hearing aids until this past November of 2022. I went to my audiologist and I was diagnosed with a mild hearing loss. My biggest complication is really in crowded areas with lots of background noise, I have a very hard time hearing the thing that I want to hear, instead I hear everything else. So having a job that requires a lot of conversation with people in those kind of environments , prior to the hearing aids it was almost impossible because I could not hear the person 2 feet in front of me. I heard everything else, but not that person, which is not that great. So I was recommended to get hearing aids by my audiologist and I did. They recommended 2 different models, they recommended the Lumity 90 by Phonak and they recommended the Widex Moment. I did a fitting with my audiologist, well not a fitting, I did a consultation and both seemed to work fine, I didn’t really know what to look for, I didn’t know what was good, what was bad, I just knew what was important to me. And what was important to me was music, right, I’m a musician, I play music, I listen to music, I experience music all day long, I also play guitar and I work on guitars so it’s important to me to be able to hear the little things, right, is there a decrease in the treble, is there an increase in the bass, I need to be able to hear these things so that I can properly diagnose what’s going on with the instrument. Finding a hearing aid that was going to allow me to do that was very important. So choosing between the 2 was going to come down to a couple different things- the technology, the accessories, and the ability to do the things that I do, whether it’s connecting to things via bluetooth or having zoom conference calls or talking hands-free, those were important things to me. So I chose the Phonak Lumity 90s for a few reasons. Number 1 is their hands-free calling and Bluetooth connectivity. So let’s start with the Bluetooth. These can connect I believe it’s up to 8 different Bluetooth devices at the same time, or sorry it can make those 8 connections but have 2 at the same time and you can switch between them easily. And for me that’s a big thing, I want to connect them to my phone, I want to connect them to my watch, and I want to connect them to my computer. Also, I have an Apple TV, so I can connect them to my Apple TV and beam that sound right into my hearing aids. So having those multiple connections was actually really important. Other devices use a different Bluetooth standard, like if they’re built for iOS, and it doesn’t really allow you to do that many connections at the same time, specifically the other hearing aid I was looking for like I couldn’t connect it to certain devices without having a secondary Bluetooth connectivity dongle, and I didn’t want to carry that around, I want everything kinda hands-free. The other benefit was making calls on the Lumity it’s a two way connection, I can hear through my hearing aids and also the microphone on the hearing aids picks up what I’m saying. Other devices I would’ve had to have another piece of technology maybe on my lapel or my collar or my shirt that would act as the microphone and the receiver and I didn’t want that, A it’s more money, and B it’s just another thing to carry around. So I guess now that I’ve been talking about these, let’s go ahead and show you what they’re like. This is the charging case for them, it does have a USB-C connection, and the bass is a little grippy, and this green ring lights up to show you that they are in fact receiving power. You will put your hearing aids in this to charge them, which is great, opening it is fairly easy, it’s a magnetic enclosure so there’s no latches. And there you can see the hearing aids, in their respective charging areas, and there’s an area for your domes. So I’m actually going to go ahead and take them out give you a little close up, I got them in the gun metal grey, sort of graphite looking finish, not because I wanted it to match my hair or my skin, I just like grey. I’m also using open domes so they are not closed, they are allowing quite a bit of the external sound into my canals and just providing some of that assistance. So I’m gonna go ahead and turn these on, both of them are the same, I’m gonna press and hold the button on the back for 5 ish seconds and you can see they start to blink green, letting you know they are in fact on. When you turn them off, they’re gonna blink red. As with most hearing aids these days, these are very low profile. You can tell me, but I can’t really see anything, you’d have to really go in there and look. Even the tube is really low key. If being subtle with your hearing aids is important to you this is a great option. They’re one of the smallest behind-the-ear receivers on the market, which is pretty cool. So why did I choose this? We talked about the Bluetooth connectivity, we talked about the hands-free calling and having it be two-way, I don’t need another accessory to act as a microphone, these act as a microphone. I can connect to a lot of different devices, my Apple TV, phone, watch, computer, I can do zoom calls, I can do everything. I can use these as headphones, which we’ll get to in a second, because that’s probably one of the downfalls for me. What do I like about them? They’re very light, I have a hard time remembering that they’re even on, not that they’re not working, that they’re on my ears, I can’t feel them, they’re not annoying, they don’t feel intrusive, they feel very natural, so that’s a big thing, knowing that they’re comfortable and knowing that they’re not going to bother you all day in terms of like a rubbing or an itching or a weight issue is fantastic. Here’s another thing I love about these hearing aids. The battery life is phenomenal, I use these from about 7, 730 in the morning, to probably about midnight, 1am, everyday, without fail, and by the end of the day, this is my experience, I put them away and they’re at about 20 to 25 percent battery left. So these things will last you all day without an issue. The battery life is fantastic. The one thing I did notice is it did decrease the battery life on my phone because these things are Bluetooth connected to your phone all day long, so that Bluetooth connection will consume more battery on your phone then usual, so just keep that in mind. One of the things I don’t like about this hearing aid, and I know it’s not the purpose, the main purpose is not to be a headphone and I understand that, so it’s just something I’m gonna live with, but the audio quality when streaming music from your phone into the hearing aids as a headphone with the open domes leaves something to be desired. There’s no real low end, it’s kinda tinny, it almost sounds like it’s from a distance, it’s kinda muffled, and I know yes, that’s the open dome letting the bass escape my ears and it’s really interfering with a pure music sound. There are things you can do to resolve that, you can work on that issues with your hearing specialist or hearing technician or audiologist to fine tune them via software, you can also go ahead and you can mess around with the app, which is kinda fun. Speaking of, the app, the Phonak app is interesting. It’s a little clunky, it feels almost a little dated, but, the functionality is fantastic, you can have multiple different presets for different environments that you’re in so that you can create custom profiles for these hearing aids. So for me, I have a restaurant mode which will really really block out most of that background noise and allow me to focus a narrow field in front of me so I can focus on what people are saying and hear them. I have a music mode which allows a lot more musical and noise data to come in so I’m not losing that low end or high end or whatever. So you can tailor as many presets as you want to certain environments and you can just go in and click the preset and it’ll switch real quick. The buttons are very responsive and clicky on the actual device themselves, so if you want to adjust the volume a little bit during the day, you can. One more really cool thing is these have a tap feature, so you can tap on the top of your ear and it will activate your software client, your assistant on your phone, so if you’re an Apple person, that’s the Siri thing, or if you’re google it could be the Hey google thing, so this if you double tap will activate that. It will also allow you to answer phone calls when they come into your phone. You can end phone calls with double tapping, you can start and stop music or a video, or pause something with the other ear and you can set that in the app. You can also set the sensitivity so you’re not slamming on your ear in order to make it work, you can make it very sensitive. Like I said, I have had very minor experience with one other hearing aid, I really wouldn’t count it as an experience as more of an exposure, it was just a few minutes, so really this is the baseline for my hearing aid experience, is the Phonak Audeo Lumity 90s that I own. I have thoroughly enjoying using them. I really, I would 100 percent recommend these to a friend, yes they are expensive, yes they are worth it. These are going to stay with me for a long time, they are going to grow with me, they are going to be able to handle any additional hearing loss that I incur in the future, which will probably happen, hopefully not too fast. If I were going to offer advice for someone who is considering purchasing hearing aids it would be to really think about what’s important to you. Is it connectivity, do I want to be able to connect to my technology seamlessly and without flaw? Is it audio quality of music or movies or TV? Is it the size, the color, the weight? You need to find your priorities, you need to figure out what’s important to you, and how you can get that to work in those hearing aids. Now, some hearing aids aren’t, they’re not going to be a good fit for you because they don’t punch those tickets, they don’t fill those requirements, but when you find one that does, get it, because I’m sure it is worth it, it will change the way you experience life, it will change the way you hear the things around you, and it will change the way you’re interacting with the people you choose to interact with. So, that’s my advice, pick what you like, focus on what you like, and make it work. So that is it for me. This is the Phonak Lumity 90, this is the super high premium top tier version of the Lumity’s, I love them, they’re great, they’re fantastic, I would recommend them to a friend absolutely, so make sure you check out the Lumity 90, the Lumity series and speak to someone whose able to help you out and guide you through the things you’re interested in learning about in terms of your hearing aids. Good morning, my name is Roy and I’m 70 years old, I live near San Francisco, and I want to tell you about my experience with hearing aids in general, and with the ones I decided to purchase. I’ve been using hearing aids for about 12 years and I have a very severe hearing loss, so I need a very good device, and the highest technology. In the past 12 years I have tried two other companies, their names are not important, but they were in the top 5. I’m a very active person, and I need to hear people from all different types of situations, such as group meetings and family gatherings, and especially from my youngest grandchild. Like everyone else I’ve had trouble hearing people with all types of background noises. I’ve heard so many good reviews about Phonak and I wanted to check them out. I had ordered the Audeo Paradise, but the Lumity R Life had just been put on the market. So I used the Audeo Paradise for 3 weeks, and then I switched to the new Lumity R with the highest level 90 to get the best level of technology. Let me show you what they look like. I went for the black color because I always wear glasses and they look like the back of my glasses, talk about good camouflage. I use custom earmolds for my severe hearing loss, and I need to point out that the air vents need to be small so the hearing aids can work its full magic and not get distorted with other ambient sounds. Here’s my charger, I chose rechargeable batteries for my hearing aids so I bought a portable Phonak charger called the Go, so I can disconnect from electricity and I can carry it with me. It can carry 5 nights of charge before I put it back to electricity, I find this extremely convenient. Here’s my next accessory, which is the Roger On, and it helps me a lot in hearing in difficult situations, one-on-one, group meetings, and chatting in a party. I can put the Roger On on three different positions and it will amplify the voices directly to my hearing aids. You can attach it to someone and you can hear them across the room. You can point this small instrument, not too intrusively, in a person’s direction to hear them better, or you can simply put it on the table, and you can pick up all sounds, from all sides of the table. This was great for Thanksgiving, I can simply put it between the cranberry sauce and no one even noticed it. I chose this type of hearing aid for its highest performance of 90, so that I can get the full use of the features of the AutoSense 5.0, which has over 200 different combinations of settings to optimize the performance of different hearing situations, from close echo chambers, to big noisy restaurants, to people who talk softly. The changes are very subtle, so you don’t know it’s actually working, but you do get the results. It even has SpeechSensor and StereoZoom 2.0 in the hearing aids, which are pretty fancy words and I don’t think I know how to describe it exactly, but basically it can detect human speech and again focuses on understanding each word from all sides of your head. I would also like to say that this unit is waterproof. Many of the new lines of Phonak hearing devices are IP 68 rated, but the Lumity R Life is off the charts in waterproof, which allows me to know at least that they will not turn off if I accidentally go into the shower or if I swim. I saw a video of a woman putting them in her husband's jeans and washing them in the machine and then putting them back in her ear. Well I’m not gonna do this but I’m convinced that they are waterproof. I am very happy that I spent the extra money to get the highest level of hearing aids mostly because of the natural sounds I get from them. Also I love using the Bluetooth, which allows me to listen to music, podcasts, and especially my audiobooks so clearly, this is just fantastic. Even answering the phone with the tap of my ear is so effortless, also this hearing aid allows me to use the microphone of the hearing aids to send back to the person I’m talking to, other companies don’t do this. I have it programmed for 2 devices at the same time, so I don’t have to switch them on and off. I have it connected to my Apple TV so when I turn on the TV all the sounds go directly to my ears. The other device is of course my smartphone, so I get all my music, audiobooks, etc, directly to my ears, and this is all without turning one off and starting the other. This is just outrageously convenient. The only downside of this product is their mobile app is slow in responding to the Bluetooth for fine tuning, but since most of the changes I do are done automatically by the hearing aids, I don’t use it as much. Also the battery is not that strong, due to the great power that it’s doing, I get maybe 4-5 hours of streaming with a normal use up to 12 hours, I often take a nap so that if I know I’m going to be out late talking to other people, that extra hour gets me 3 hours more, so I work it out. I would totally recommend Phonak Lumity and this level of technology to my friends and family. The main advice I have for people who are looking for hearing devices is to make sure they fit your needs as best possible. If your hearing loss is not severe, then maybe over the counter is a good fit, but as time goes on, you will need to get a better hearing aid and you need to get to a local audiologist for an evaluation so you can be part of the hearing society. I have seen too many friends who separate themselves from life because they can’t hear a simple conversation from a good friend. It used to be a stigma to wear hearing aids, and yet now in our modern society you see so many young people with Apple AirPods or some kind of hearing device, so now it’s considered to be cool and we all like to be cool. In conclusion I feel people don’t know the miracle it is to hear until they lose it, and have no idea what a marvel the human ear is until it no longer functions normally. Only now with my Phonak hearing aids do I enjoy talking to people and hearing everything so normal as I did in my youth. Hello, my name is Bob and I’d like to give a little review of the hearing aids I got from ZipHearing. These are my first set of hearing aids, I’ve never had hearing aids before, and I’ve had a hearing test from a local audiologist where I live in Amsterdam, NY and they gave me the hearing test and tried to sell me the hearing aids that he sells for like $5000, $5-$6000 I think it was, and it was just too expensive for me, I couldn’t afford that. So I did some research online and found out about ZipHearing and saw that their prices were like half of his so did some research and only read good things about them, so called them up and they suggested an audiologist that’s not too far from me, it wasn’t right in my town but it was about a 30 minute drive which wasn’t too bad. Went there, I got another hearing test which matched my first one and told them I was looking to get either the Oticons or the Phonak Lumity hearing aids, and he suggested the Lumity, he said that’s what he has himself. I wanted to like the, not the top tier, but the second from the top tier, and he said with my hearing loss I don’t even need that one, I can go for the third one down. So I went with his recommendation and I guess in about three weeks they came in and went back there and got fitted, and uh, everything went well, he had to you know check my ears and see what size domes I needed, and my left ear got a small vented dome, and my right ear got a medium sized dome. First he gave me the vented dome also but then after a few weeks I noticed I was getting a lot of feedback in it, so gave him a call and went back there and he changed out the vented dome to a power dome which I guess blocks the sound from escaping my ear canal and getting back to the microphone, so it cut out the feedback like 99%. I was very happy with the service they provided along with my hearing aids I got the charging case and uh, I mean, there’s nothing I really, that I do not like about the hearing aids at all and nothing but good things to say about ZipHearing. Their price was right, they gave me the documentation I needed to submit to my insurance company so I could get some money back, I don’t have full coverage but, everything worked out great and I would just suggest for everyone else to choose ZipHearing. Hey everybody my name is Tom, I’m a professional engine builder, I build performance and racing engines up to about 5000 horsepower, and so as such I’m in some very loud dino cells and around some very loud cars obviously and my hearing was never good to begin with and despite the fact that I wear hearing protection it’s gotten worse you know due to age and like really noises. So anyhow, I have some pretty substantial hearing loss. It’s always made it very difficult for me to listen to other people, especially if there was any noise in the background at all, if somebody was speaking, and somebody else went [clears throat], I lost what was said, I was really having trouble following that. So anyhow, I have now, now I’m kinda happy, I’ve got Phonak, here it is, Phonak hearing aids, this is the charger and case, it’s really neat that, you can charge this thing up and it holds a charge long enough to charge I think four times or something like that, on the hearing aids, it’s got the LEDs on there so you can see what it’s like, I’ve charged my hearing aids 3 or 4 times and still had several bars but I go ahead and charge up the charging base, I’m really really pleased with this. I haven’t always been pleased with my hearing aids. This is the third set, I wish I got these first. My first set I went to a local place, saw a place here, ‘hearing aids’, I said eh, I’m a dumb engine builder, you know so I go in there and thinking that they’re gonna have my best interests at heart, you know when somebody comes to me to build an engine, I have their best interest at heart because the better they do, the better I look, and I like to see people setting records and winning races. So I go into this hearing aid place and I am fed a line of crap and I don’t know anything about hearing aids, my first experience, so they completely pulled the wool over my eyes and you know, they call me in like a year after I had the hearing aids for a “free cleaning” and I go in there and they do a quick hearing test where they basically talk to you and they try to convince me that I read lips too, that was a big ‘oh you read lips’ and so they put something in front of their mouth and [mumbling] and you hear that and then and then you look at them and okay, um ‘cat’, ‘dog’, it’s like give me a break, can you be so obvious? Anyhow, you have these $5800 hearing aids for a year, go in and they say ‘yeah, you know your hearing aids can’t be turned up anymore so you need a new pair. So left them, and went to a you know, got a little smarter this time but still not smart enough, went to a big name place, you know you see commercials for them on TV you know they’re supposed to be terrific and I bought their top of the line hearing aids and these top of the line hearing aids you could adjust from your phone but they don’t connect to your phone, so I can’t listen to my phone through my hearing aids unless I put the phone up to my ear, I can’t do phone calls with them, I couldn’t do any of that, but I could adjust the volume up or down and even when I adjusted it up all the way I didn’t really notice much, uh, you know I’d crank it up all the way, put it back to normal and, minor difference. Also these hearing aids were a little bit better than the first ones, first ones were adjustable on three levels, they had low tones, you know low frequency, mid frequency, high frequency, those are the three adjustments it had, so that was totally useless, I was lied to about that too, I was told they had noise canceling technology, etc, etc, they don’t have any of that. So these ones have 17 tone adjustments, so that was much better, but there was still a lot of things I couldn’t hear, our toaster oven, when it would go off with my toaster strudel, a special treat for weekends, it’d go off, you know ‘bing’, I’m sittin in the living room which is about 6 feet from the toaster oven in the kitchen and we have an open floor plan and I didn’t hear it but my wife on the other side of the living room could hear the thing, so I was like alright, I know my hearing loss is pretty severe so I guess I gotta just live with what I gotta live with. I was still able to hear conversations, not as well as I’d like, still had to have people repeat things, and I had some trouble with these hearing aids, you know I had them repaired under warranty, and um I got a drop of sweat in one, ‘oh god forbid you should get a drop of sweat in your hearing aid that you wear behind your ear.’ Anyhow, they said ‘yeah well you’re gonna have to send that in for repair, it’s gonna be $450.’ So okay, so I got it repaired and you know shortly after that, another hearing aid just decided, as a matter of fact it was the same one that they had repaired just decided to ‘bang’, decided to stop working, it was kinda hard to tell because they didn’t work that well to begin with, but I’m listening to that and I’m like man this thing isn’t working and I do some tests and no it’s not working, so I call this big national hearing aid place and they say ‘oh yeah well things have changed a little bit, it’s a minimum $575 so you just give us $575 and the hearing aid, and after it’s repaired we’ll tell you if and how much more you owe us.’ Yeah that didn’t fly real well with me, I don’t need to tell you what I told them, you can probably guess, so my wife and I start looking around, then there’s, you know, I say ‘look I’m done with these big name people and stuff’, you know it’s this is all BS I’m just tired of this crap, so my wife found a place and that’s where we got turned on to the Phonak, there you go now you can see it, Phonak hearing aids, so I go into an audiologist’s office, where an actual doctor examined me, not a hearing aid salesman, the big national place it’s all hearing aid salesman except for one test they give you where they have an audiologist come in but he doesn’t talk about the hearing aids or anything, he just gives the test, gives it to the hearing aid salesman people and you know they start selling you on this stuff. Oh by the way, right after I bought those $7,000 hearing aids, get that $7,000, I put $5,000 down on my house when I bought it okay, it was a while ago but still, right after I got that, not even a week later I’m getting notices in the mail, ‘hey trade in your hearing aids we’ll give you a great deal on some new ones.’ Really, give me a break I just bought the top of the line most expensive hearing aids you offer, and I don’t get a letter saying hey congratulations you know, we’re glad you got these hearing aids, we’re looking forward to a good relationship with you, no, I get a letter saying hey why don’t you trade in that old junk and we’ll see you some new stuff that’s really cool. So I was not pleased with them from the get go. Well, I when I got these Phonak hearing aids, excuse me I’m an engine builder not a speaker, when I got these Phonak hearing aids, wow, what a difference they made, I mean this is incredible, and the thing I like about it is one, it doesn’t have 17 points of adjustments, it’s got 21, it’s a little bit more than half the cost of what I paid for the inferior hearing aids, I wasn’t too sure how much I was gonna like these because they’re rechargeable, not by battery, you know you don’t put batteries in them. If you go online and buy batteries, I was getting like a year’s worth of batteries for $25, so the expense was not a consideration and quite often, I’ve worked some long hours I mean, you know you go in, an engine builder, you’re racing, you go in to work, if there’s a problem you stay there till it’s solved, you know you gotta race this weekend, or a customer’s got a race or whatever you gotta get stuff done there’s no you can’t just say well you know tomorrow’s another day, no you get this stuff done now. So there are days I work 10,12,14 hours and I wear the hearing aids constantly so I was a little concerned about how long they’d last but I have yet to have them die on me, you know, I’ve gotten the little warnings like I’ll just give you an idea, I put these things on at uh, about 6:45 or 7:00 in the morning and around 12:30 or 1:00 in the morning I’d get the warning that, eh, batteries really low you know you’re in danger of the hearing aid dying. So, they last a good long time. Another advantage to the rechargeable is it’s a sealed unit so there’s not sweat gonna wick in where the battery was, because I was always having to take you know the batteries out, take a q-tip in and clean the battery tray and you have to be real careful because the battery tray is very fragile and very important, so you know, and big national brand I’m sure if I broke that battery tray it’d be $575 to have it fixed, so that was my concern but it turned out to be a non issue really, so, been very pleased with that, and plus these have the advantage of I can now hear my phone through my hearing aids, so when I wanna call somebody, I just dial the number, put the phone back in my pocket, and I speak to them, I hear them and they hear me and when I first started using these, I was asking people on phone calls all the time, ‘how do I sound, can you hear me’ cuz you know sometimes on like cheap speakerphones it sounds almost like they’re in a hollow room or something, or some terrible sound, but everyone says I sound pretty good so I’m very pleased with that. For things I don’t like about these hearing aids, they’re not free, that’s the only thing I really don’t like about them, they’re not free, I wish they were free, but I am so glad that I spent the money to get these, when I turn these hearing aids up, turn the volume up, there is a noticeable difference, I mean a substantially noticeable difference which they never had that with the other big name brands, so I’m really pleased with that. I would definitely recommend these to anybody with heavy hearing loss like mine, they probably make some for people with lesser hearing loss, I dunno like I said I’m an engine builder you know, you wanna know about race engines I’ll be glad to talk to you, hearing aids I don’t know so much so I gotta trust somebody, and this Phonak, they’ve been fantastic I’ve been using them now for a couple of months, I’m no longer having, we have meetings at work you know meet with engineering team, or fabricators, and I’m no longer having to lean in you know, ‘what what what what’, I’m able to hear them, I no longer have to, on our zoom meetings I no longer have to put headphones on to listen to the computer, I can actually hear from the laptop speakers now, I couldn’t do that before if I didn’t have my headphones you know, everybody would be seeing the top of my head and I’ve got my ear down you know against the speaker so I could hear what’s going on in these meetings. So this has been, I can almost call it life changing, in that I’m able to hear so much better, I’m able to communicate with people and you know communication is kind of important in my job so I’m very pleased with that. My experience like I said with other hearing aids has been absolutely terrible, I shouldn’t say absolutely terrible but not good, this experience has been fantastic so far and I have no reason to believe it won’t be anything but continue to be terrific, these hearing aids work like a champ, like I said I’m able to hear, that’s a big deal, I am able to hear, so my advice to you anybody watching this would be, one, when you’re at an appointment, you’re seeing about getting hearing aids, who is the person you’re speaking to, are they an audiologist or are they a hearing aid salesman, because if they’re a hearing aid salesman, they’re gonna tell you everything you wanna hear, about how great these crap hearing aids are that they’re gonna sell you, they’re just looking to make a sale, an audiologist, atleast a good one, is going to look to find a solution for you. That’s a big deal, just like at work, we try to find solutions, you know, we overcome problems, we’re not salesman that are just like oh yeah we want to sell this new part yeah here, oh this is a great part man put this in your engine boom, no, we’re looking for specific problems and getting rid of the problems, solving them, overcoming them and making things better, and that’s how we earn our money, and that’s how a good audiologist earns their money too, by making your hearing actually better by getting you what you need, rather than just what they want to sell. A lot of the big name places you know they advertise, one of their big hooks is lifetime free cleanings, lifetime free visits, you never have to pay for anything, because they overcharge unbelievable amounts for the hearing aids to begin with, and then trust me, after a year or so, these free cleanings and whatever else they offer, are gonna turn into sales calls to sell you new hearing aids because that’s what they do, they sell hearing aids, they don’t solve hearing problems necessarily, sometimes they do I’m sure but their main goal is ‘let’s sell hearing aids.’ Their main goal is not let’s help these people with their hearing, it’s let’s sell these hearing aids, and that’s why I’m so glad I got Phonak, they are awesome, and here let’s see if you can see it behind my ear, I can’t tell or not, I’ll tell you what I’ll take one out, these wires are expensive, that the speaker is on, so I pull it out of my ear first and then I take by ear, here we go, this is it, excuse me while I look down here, here we go, the little ear cup thing was reversed because it was pulling it out of my ear, but yeah you don’t wanna be putting strain on that little wire because that little wire is $75, you know it’s a pain but if you handle these things correctly that little wire will last like forever, so it’s just real easy I just put that in there and in here a little bit, there we go, get em, get it situated in my ear where it feels comfortable and the hearing sounds most natural, that’s something else too, the hearing does sound very natural, which is real important to me because I do like my music, I love jazz, you know, big band, count basie, duke ellington, on up to modern jazz, I really love big band and you know there’s a lot of sound to hear and boy if it’s tinny or ringing at all it’s just horrible but this sounds fresh, crish, clean, it’s just absolutely beautiful, so I’ll tell you you can’t go wrong with a set of Phonak hearing aids. If you’re listening to this, if you have the Phonak hearing aids you’re probably listening just from the speakers, if you don’t you probably got headphones on like I used to have to, or if you have these other name brand hearing aids you might have to have headphones on to to listen to them, but I’ll tell you get some Phonak hearing aids, you will absolutely not regret it, okay, thank you very much, good luck, good hearing, and god bless.

Hi my name is Steven, I am reviewing the Phonak Audeo Lumity, this one comes with a charger, put your hearing aids in there, and plug it in, it charges. One of the downsides of this is it’s not a battery, so you can’t take this mobile if you forgot to charge them, or if you need to go an extended period where you don’t have a place to plug it in. Good news is the battery lasts basically all day. So some quick pros and cons on this, first of all, as you can see, you can hardly notice it on my ear, I do sometimes have to just fiddle with them and stick them back in there, but if you do a close up there, back of my ear, there you go, you can’t hardly notice that they’re there, take ‘em off, that’s how big they are, they’re pretty tiny. There is one model above this that is 100 percent waterproof, but it’s slightly larger, there’s a few extra membranes, these are pretty water resistant, they’re just not 100 percent waterproof, but the other ones were just slightly bigger and I could feel the difference in the weight so I chose these ones. Another pro on this is that the calls are crisp and clear, I can stream calls, I can stream podcast, I can stream audio of whatever, again battery lasts all day. The app on the phone is really great, so I can control these directly from the app, I can make on the fly adjustments, so most of the time though I don’t even mess with it. The programming is really pretty good, there are some situations when I’m in like a large area, say like in a church, there’s kind of a big auditorium and I’m talking to someone next to me and it’s trying to pick up sounds from much further out and it kind of like fluctuates back and forth so I did find that I had to switch manually to a programming for in church services or whatever so it doesn’t constantly try to switch back and forth, I get a little bit better results that way. Mostly though I just leave it on automatic. Another pro is that the cleaning and maintenance reminders are on the app so it gives me a push notification or it says hey time to change the filter. The audiologist can really fine tune the programming so when you work with the audiologist at the initial first or second meeting, I think I did two full meetings with the programming and got it dialed in almost exactly the way I needed it, just have to make those minor adjustments when I’m in like a big auditorium or whatever there’s a little bit of echo or whatever. Honestly I wish I never had to take them off because it’s such a huge difference and when I wake up in the morning and I don’t have them on, I can’t hear what they’re saying, but I put them on, and I can hear. Some cons, occasionally the Bluetooth doesn’t connect properly, there’s a little of like maybe the right one will be connected but the left one won’t, so I have to turn Bluetooth off, restart the phone, that might be an Android issue, because I have Android, they do say that it works a little bit better with iPhones so if you’re in that category that will work to. During Bluetooth streaming there’s not as many options to program the equalizer, I can’t up the bass if I’m listening to music, it’s pretty much just what they program that you’re supposed to hear so if like a little extra bass while you’re streaming music, you can’t really mess with that. That is one con on it, but other than that they’re pretty good. The other thing I mentioned there’s no mobile charge on that, also some brands have a dehumidifier, extra battery capacity in the charger and it’s an all-in-one, so I forgot to charge my hearing aids last night because I put them in the dehumidifier to try and make them last longer, it takes 45 minutes, forgot to put them back in here. Basically other than that I really like ZipHearing, I like that they made it nice and easy, that they pair you with an actual audiologist. I did buy some Rextons from Costco before I got these ones thinking I could get a cheaper version of a hearing aid, but they had no options on the app, they did not take phone calls at all, I can double tap to answer, double tap to hang up, I can do that with my audio if I’m listening, sometimes that doesn’t work all the way and you do have to pull the phone out and whatever, but I have to have access to my phone without having my hands on it and these work phenomenally with that. Other than that, these are really awesome, I would recommend these to anybody that is looking for any type of hearing aid that you need some features on. If you just need some basic hearing aids, the Rextons once I got them dialed in, hearing was fine, but I couldn’t take calls on it, the Bluetooth, the streaming, wasn’t good at all. Hi, I’m Suzanne, I’m going to tell you a little bit about my experience with hearing aids which I’ve been wearing for about 2 months now for the very first time. I noticed that I was missing things, I kept having to ask people to repeat themselves too often, or sometimes I was embarrassed to ask them to repeat themselves, felt awkward, and then I missed important information. Around the dinner table, if there’s a group conversation going, I would miss things, lost the thread. So I decided it wasn’t okay, it was affecting my relationships and it was time to do something about it. Went to a few different audiologists, both of them recommended the Phonak brand, and, there are 3 models to the Phonak and they recommended the top of the line, Lumity. They are impartial, they don’t get a kick back, so there was nothing in it for them to recommend the Phonak or the top of the line, the Lumity, and based on my research I agreed that this is a very good quality device. I was a little bit concerned about the Lumity however, it’s the most high tech of the 3 Phonak models and I’m not a high tech person. This is a Bluetooth enabled device, you download an app on your phone, which then pairs with the hearing aid. And um, as I said I’m not a tech savvy person so I thought perhaps this is not for me, and they said on the contrary it is for because it is so self-adjusting, it adjusts to automatically to changes in the sound environment and requires minimal manipulation by me as the user, and that has proven to be the case, I’m quite satisfied with it. This is my charger case, which is plugged into an external power supply every night, and you see there the two hearing aids. I’ll pull out the right one, it’s red, I dunno if you can see the color red there, it’s color coded red for right ear. This is the computer part that rests behind your ear, and then this wire snakes around to the speaker, I’ve also heard it called microphone or receiver which is inserted in your ear canal, and you may see that there’s this rubber tip on the speaker, and that rubber tip can come in different shapes and sizes for your comfort. It’ll affect your comfort as well as how sound is perceived, so that’s something that the audiologist works with you on. It took us a few tries to find the dome that worked best for me, and um, I’m very satisfied with the device, the downside is simply that you have to be careful that the computer part resting on your ear doesn’t get dislodged. Even if it does it’s pretty well, the speakers pretty well seated in your ear canal but still you want to be mindful of that. And when you’re removing glasses and removing masks, which I sometimes still wear, that can be tricky. It’s convenient in that, I listen to a lot of audiobooks and so I no longer need earbuds, I can just listen to the books through my hearing aids, even if my phone is across the room I hear the ping of a text message, it kinda feels like I have a super power. The phone rings right in my ear, all I have to do is tap twice on the computer to accept the call and tap once to terminate the call, very convenient. By the same token, the Bluetooth sensitivity sometimes is more than you want, occasionally I pick up on sounds in conversations that are not intended for me, that happened at the dentist recently where music started blaring into my ears from the sound system from the dental office, no problem, just had to turn off the bluetooth and all was well, well-worth the inconvenience to now be able to hear better and to not have my deficit interfere with my relationships which I cherish.
