Amazing sound quality and connectivity

As of August 31, 2021, Livio is an outdated model. If you're interested in Livio, we'd recommend checking out the next generation model, Evolv AI.

Livio AI was most well-known for being the more affordable alternative to Starkey's (at the time flagship model), Livio AI.

There are sometimes good reasons to purchase an outdated model, but in most cases we'd recommend taking a look at the newer model.

I was almost in tears

Review by: Steve from CA
Model: Starkey Livio 2000 RIC R
Bought: Dec 2020

Hi, my name is Steve, I’m making this little video to kinda show you what my experience has been with hearing aids. I’m 72 years old and as far as hearing loss I’ve probably had it for some time but, these hearing aids now I finally just made the leap to get these, in, I guess it was late November of 2019, so they’re only what 3 months old or something. But my experience has been positive so far. The brand I chose is Starkey, and I’ll show you, I’ve got them on right now and I’ll just swing this thing around here and hopefully you can see them over my ear. So you can see they’re pretty discreet, you can hardly see that they’re there. I wouldn’t care if you could see them or not, because I need them, but anyway, and I’ll take these off in a minute and show you what they look like without being installed over my ear. Why did I choose this hearing aid? I chose the Starkey because of the ability to make adjustments to them on the phone app, so, it’s just handy that way. And I don’t think all of them come with that, the different brands, but this one did, and also because it’s rechargeable. Here’s the case that they come in and it’s got the little mini USB port in the back that plugs in and it holds at least a 2 or 3 day charge in it when its unplugged so I can take it with me when I’m on the road. The hearing aids are magnetized in that little rechargeable area , they fit right in there and they won't fall out. What do I like about them? They’re comfortable, good sound quality, the app is easy to use and they are rechargeable. What do I not like about it? There’s really nothing that’s bothersome. The little retention tail, and I’ll show you that when I take them off here in a second, they call it a retention tail or a sport clip that’s supposed to hold them in a little more secure, if your doing exercising. I had some trouble with that in the beginning, just getting them to stay in the position that they’re meant to be in. When I talked to Starkey about it they said, if you don’t need it to retain them and the hearing aids stay in place without it, just take them off and that’s really simple to do. Would I recommend them to a friend? Yes. When I first put them on, I was almost in tears I couldn’t believe how much I could hear with them on and how much I’d been missing over the years, so yeah I’d definitely recommend them. What is the number one piece of advice I’d give to someone that’s purchasing hearing aids? Well I went to three different providers, to see, to get tested, and the third one was the one that I found to be, the people that I felt most comfortable with. As far as ZipHearing, I placed the order through the provider that was going to fit them, and then everything worked out just fine. But I would recommend going to two or three different people to get your ears tested, your hearing tested, because you may find a better fit with one of them than with another. And the only problem I’ve ever had and it isn’t Starkeys, or any hearing aid manufacturer’s fault, but with this covid-19 and you’re wearing a mask, you have to be really careful when you’re taking the mask off so you don’t get it caught in the hearing aid and have it dislodged and come out of your ear and lose it. I’ve been real fortunate I haven’t lost anything but I have gotten them caught a couple times where they’ve come out of my ear. I’ll take them out right now and show you what they look like. Really small, I don’t know how to describe it, it’s probably about an inch long and maybe a half inch wide and maybe 3/16ths of an inch thick, but, and that little tail hanging down right here is what I’m talking about. When you put this thing on it kinda flips in your ear like a little kickstand, you curl it up and put it in the bottom of your ear, sometimes it just wants to go the wrong way for some reason, but that happened during the first month and since then I haven’t seemed to have a problem with it. I’ll take the other one off, that’s the same thing, show you what they look like just laying there, and that’s it. So hopefully the review is giving you some information that’s useful.

Not very durable

sound quality good.. not very durable.also, can slip off too easily..also,not happy about having to change batteries every week.the first week ,batteries did not last 7 day, just five days. When wearing glasses ,i find that i must be especially careful ,I work and need to take them off several times daily ,so I have caught the wire twice & they flung off.

Aids do not keep the sound levels

My biggest complaint is that the hearing aids do not keep the sound levels. I have to constantly set the hearing aids on its charger, then recalibrate via iPhone, Accessibility, Hearing Devices, then make sure they both are listed (left/right) and adjust the Microphone Level. This goes on several times during the day.

May hearing aid person says it's not the fault of the hearing aid, but rather an Apple problem. I don't buy that. Why can Starkey not get together with Apple, since they know of the problem? These here, all of the sudden are dead on one side or the other.

Then there is the malfunctioning of either side when I listen to a Video. The sound comes in either on the left, or on the right, or not at all. Also, Phone calls are a pain! The sound sound does NOT come in on BOTH ears! IT HAPPENS ALL OF THE TIME!!! I wished I had chosen the battery operated hearing aids. At least they work all day, until the battery gets low.

Bottom line: I have to make do with these hearing aids until Jaunuary 2022, when I can buy new ones with the help of our insurance. SO NO, I AM NOT SATISFIED.

Better than expected

The sound quality is great, better than expected. They are very comfortable, I hardly know I'm wearing them. They are very durable and reliable, a con might be the battery life is only 4 or 5 days, but the Pro's outweigh the Cons, I'm very happy with my hearing aids and love that I can control the volume through my i-phone and select the different listening options from my phone and I can also listen to music and answer calls that feed right into my hearing aid blue tooth.

Sound quality is good, some issues

So far sound quality on Starkey 2400i is good. There are still some issues with background sound-it does not block out the background noise. When talking on the phone the sound does not come out clear-it cracks-so it is sometimes hard to hear the words that the person is saying. The batteries last about 6-7 days.

Happy with them

I am happy with my hearing aids. It took a few days to get used to them. At first I left them on too long and they were making the tip of my ear sore. I was advised to get used to them by not wearing them all day until I got used to them. I have had them for two months now and have nothing but good things to report.

Comfortable and reliable

I just recently purchased my first pair of hearing aids and have been wearing them now for less than a month. They are Starkey Livio 1600 rechargeable hearing aids, which I purchased frommy provider in Cranberry Twp., PA. I was quite surprised how comfortable they are and have been quite easy to get used to. They connect up with my iPhone, for easy and clear phone conversations. I can listen to my music, directly from my phone while I'm out walking. The sound quality is good, they are comfortable and quite reliable! I think the best part is no batteries to fiddle with, instead I just place them in the charger each evening and they are ready to go in the morning!

Good, still getting used to them

Am still getting used to my Starkey CROS and Livio 2000 hearing aids. Using a CROS hearing aid, I get only 13 hours of battery usage with rechargeable battery. It would be nice to have rechargeable battery that would give at least 15-16 hours usage with CROS. Computer information on usage, care, etc. of hearing aid was not as user friendly as i would like. Difficult to find and then difficult to follow. Since my husband was a Computer Scientist, I appreciate software programs that are well written and easy to follow. Am hoping when I meet with my Audiologist next week, he will be able to explain more clearly some of the questions I have. Use of my iPhone with Bluetooth is really great. May need to get a mobile mic to understand what one member of my household is saying. I was hoping this Starkey would enable me to understand her speech. Perhaps an adjustment can modify that problem.Bottom line so far: I like these hearing aids, and I look forward to being able to use them more fully. How about an auburn or burgundy color? Cinnamon does not quite go with my hair color and I choose not to color my hair cinnamon.

Amazing

I never realized or admitted how much my hearing was affecting me or others. I have suffered from tinnitus for 60 years. My hearing aids are amazing not only am I hearing more and better, my tinnitus is less noticable. Since my hearing is so different from right and left it is great that they can be adjusted individually to best match the need for each ear. I was uncertain about getting hearing aids and now wish I had done so much sooner. They are well worth the time and the money

Common questions about Starkey Livio hearing aids

Bluetooth / ConnectivityRechargeabilityDisposable BatteriesControls/AppsMiscellaneous

Choose questions category:

Is this hearing aid Bluetooth compatible?
Livio is Made for iPhone, which means it can connect directly with iPhones to stream music, phone calls, and more. Livio is also compatible with the new Android protocol, Audio Streaming for Hearing Aids (ASHA), allowing direct streaming from select Android devices with Android 10 and Bluetooth 5.0. If your phone isn't directly compatible with Livio, you can still get Bluetooth functionality via the Remote Microphone +.
Does this hearing aid allow for hands-free phone calls?
To talk hands-free on the phone requires the Remote Mic + accessory. This will allow you to keep your phone in your pocket/purse, etc, and the microphone on the accessory will pick up your voice so the caller can hear you.
Can this hearing aid be paired directly to my Bluetooth TV?

If you have second generation Amazon Fire TV Cube, you can stream audio directly from the TV to Livio hearing aids. If not, you'll need Starkey's TV Streamer accessory to stream audio.

How many hours a day do the batteries last?
On a full charge, your hearing aids will last about 24 hours if you do no streaming. If you do stream, that number could drop to around 16 hours.
What is the lifespan of the rechargeable batteries?
Your battery will last a minimum of 3 years. After that point, your Starkey provider will send your hearing aid to Starkey for a battery replacement. We expect most providers to charge between $150-$250 per device for this service.
How will I know when my battery needs to be charged?
When the battery is low, you'll hear a spoken notification through the hearing aid that says "battery." Then, 10-15 minutes later, you'll hear a long tone, and the hearing aid will die shortly after that and will require charging before use.
What if I'm on-the-go and my battery dies?
The battery should last long enough that this isn't an issue. But if your battery does quit, you have a few options. First, if you have your charger with you, it has a built-in battery which stores 3 full reserve charges, so you can charge your hearing aids that way, without needing access to electricty. Or, if you have Starkey's pocket-sized Mini Turbo Charger, you can turbo charge your hearing aids in just 7 minutes, getting you 3.5 hours of power, and that also doesn't require plugging into electricity.
How long does it take to get a full charge?
The hearing aids will be fully charged in less than 3.5 hrs, providing 24 hours of power.
Does the charger include a dehumidifier?
Yes, the charger has a built-in compartment for a desiccant puck (included), for dehumidifying the aids.
How long do the batteries last?
Battery life will vary depending on a number of factors. In general, expect 3-5 days from 312 models, and 5-6 days from 13 battery models.
How will I know when it's time to change the battery?
When the battery is low, you'll hear a spoken notification through the hearing aid that says "battery." Then, 10-15 minutes later, you'll hear a long tone, and the hearing aid will die shortly after that unless the battery is replaced.
Are the batteries hard to change?
For most people, no, the size 312 and 13 batteries are large enough to easily handle. But if you're concerned with this, we recommend getting a rechargeable model so you don't have to change the batteries.
How can I control this hearing aid, and which settings can I control?
Using either the onboard rockerswitch, push button, or the handheld remote, you can control the volume and program. Using the Thrive app, you also have access to an equalizer that lets you adjust the base and treble of the hearing aids.
How do I turn this hearing aid on and off?
If you use a model that takes disposable batteries, simply open the battery door to turn the hearing aid off, and when you close it, the aid will turn on. If you use a rechargeable model, the aid will automatically turn off when you put it back in it's charger, and will turn on when you take it out. To turn a rechargeable aid off manually, just press and hold the pushbutton for 3 seconds. Repeat to turn it back on.
Does the app have a “Find My Hearing Aid” feature?
Yes, but it in order for this feature work, your phone and hearing aids must've been paired before the hearing aids were lost. If they were, and you lose your hearing aids, the app will tell you show you a location on a map, where the hearing aids were last connected to the phone.
Is this hearing aid CROS compatible?
The following models are CROS compatible: RIC 312, RIC R, BTE 13
Can I get this hearing aid with a telecoil?
The following models include a telecoil: ITE R, RIC R, BTE 13, BTE R
